My promise to you

I’m a coach. I guess you know that, which is why you’re here. I should now tell you why I’m the BEST coach with the PERFECT answer to whatever work-related challenge has brought you to this website.

Here’s the thing. I’m not going to do that. I don’t think that the “best coach in the world” exists. I do think there is probably the right coach for you, and I also think that you’re the best judge of who that is.

So, my plan is to tell you honestly and transparently about my background and how I work. That way, you can make an informed decision on whether you’d want to work with me.

There are three things that are important to how I coach. You can read more about them below.

Successful 20 year corporate career

I’ve built teams. Interviewed for 100s of leadership positions. Been promoted. Decided who to promote. Influenced CEOs. Solved complex business problems. Presented on massive stages. Led large functions. Written strategies. Failed and torn those strategies up.

That doesn’t mean that I expect you to do exactly what I did. I think you’re a smart adult and you have your own answers. But it does mean I get it. I speak your language. If you need to work through some of the strategic or tactical problems you are facing, I have the experienced needed to be your thought partner.

Psychological depth

I’ve studied Humanistic approaches to psychotherapy as part of my ongoing training, and I integrate theory from Transactional Analysis and Gestalt into my work. I believe that truly transformative executive coaching works with the whole person, not just with the problem.

I believe that you might need to explore how you relate to others, and the beliefs you have about yourself, if you want to reach your full potential.

I deeply appreciate working with clients who are willing to be vulnerable in their self-exploration.

Creative

I have a long history with the arts. I have a Master of Studies in English Literature from the University of Oxford, and I’m a published poet. I have written, directed and performed in sell-out & award-winning shows at the Edinburgh Fringe.

When it resonates with my clients, I work with you using creative experiments - painting, writing, modelling, role-play - whatever speaks to you most. This might help you take a new perspective on something that’s been bothering you for a while. Or get clarity on an issue that’s been confusing or unclear. I enjoy working this way with clients who are up for the challenge!
